Beeswax Wraps
We're all trying to reduce plastic where we can. Beeswax Wraps help eliminate the need for plastic wrap and storage bags. Because they're breathable, they also help keep food fresher, longer. They're easily portable so packing them to go is an added benefit. My beeswax is locally sourced and fabrics are new or upcycled depending on availability.
Unpaper Towels
If you're hoping to toss fewer paper towels into the trash, we have a solution. Unpaper towels are made with a fun cotton print on one side and terry cloth on the other for maximum mess elimination without the waste. They come in sets of 6 and snap together to make a roll. They are chunkier than some brands and made for messes.
Common Questions about Wraps...
How long do they last?
I have people who are still using my wraps almost two years after purchasing them. They will not last forever but can be revived either by ironing them between pieces of parchment paper or placing them on parchment-lined cookie sheet in a 200C oven for a closely watched few minutes. If you're local to Northumberland County, I can revive them for you! When they've truly bitten the dust, cut them up into small pieces and compost them.
How the heck do you wash them?
Remembering that they're made of wax, they like to be cleaned in tepid water and mild soap. Wash them under running water between your hands or wipe them off with a sponge and let them dry. Your stack of clean dishes will look pretty.
I'm allergic to pine resin, can I use them?
I don't want to give away all my secrets but if you've got allergies to pine, I can make wraps with 100% damar resin. Just pop me an email and I'd be happy to sort you out.
How do you use them?
Simply wrap them around unused foods, fold them into a bag, or cover a dish. The heat from your hands will mold them and help them stick together.
What can I put in them?
Beeswax wraps are great for keeping bread, cheese, fresh pasta, fruits, and veggies fresh. Plastic smothers food but the wraps allow food to breathe and keeps bacteria at bay so your food stays fresher, longer. They're great for covering leftovers and for packing things to go. Things to stay away from are things like raw meat and runny things that stain, like tomato sauce.
Do you do custom orders?
Yes! They will take longer to get to you but if you have a specific theme or colour in mind or want matching towels and wraps in various sizes, please email me and I'd be happy to put something together for you.
